Review: Farmer’s Cafe, Bandra

Every time there is a new restaurant in Bandra worth visiting, we do a little happy dance!

The newest entrant on our list of favourites is Farmer’s Cafe.¬†A hidden gem, we heard a lot about this place since the time it opened so finally we decided to pay a visit. We aren’t a fan of the keto, vegan and other diets/fads, but even then, it was interesting to see their menu had a host of options to suit everyone following these diets as well as for those who just want to eat healthy.

The place is located in the same lane as Ayaz, Between Breads et all but can easily be missed as it’s a hole in the wall. There are couple of tables inside as well as outside and a pretty great menu. The vibe of the place is quite cozy and warm and so is the service.

We ordered for the Chicken Burger, which was served with Coleslaw and their House Sauce. The burger patty was grilled and the buns were multigrain. Inspite of this, the burger tasted as good as an unhealthy one. *winks* Next we had the Aglio E Olio which came with mushrooms, olives, cherry tomatoes, zucchini and bell peppers and was topped with parmesan shavings. This was delicious as well and the portion was good for one.

A vegan friend who accompanied us called for the Farmer’s Vegetarian Meal which looked mind blowing. It came with Roasted Vegetables, Tofu cooked in their homemade sauce, brown rice and salad. This meal was vegan and gluten free. She absolutely loved it and was quite satisfied as it was a complete meal! Going to definitely try the non vegetarian version of it on our next visit.

In the beverages, we tried the Cucumber Coriander Chaas which was more like a slush but quite refreshing and delicious. And the cold coffee with soy milk (vegan again) which was quite nice too. They don’t serve processed sugar and if you need a sweetener, you can request them to give you some jaggery.

Overall, the meal was absolutely delightful and we’re waiting to go back here to try the remaining options from the menu! Kudos to the team ūüôā

Review: Poetry by Love & Cheesecake

Everytime there’s a new cafe in the city, we are the first ones to drop by and try it. It was no different with Poetry, a newly opened cafe by the guys behind dessert chain, Love & Cheesecake.

We went there on a rainy weekday evening and we were delighted with the cute little space with an abstract feel to it, justifies the name, Poetry. One side of the cafe had an enticing line up of desserts while the other side had a few tables to accomodate the customers.

Nutellla Layered Cheesecake
Nutellla Layered Cheesecake

We started with trying the Hot Chocolate. Extremely fascinating, the Nutella Hot Chocolate was. A chocolate ball in an empty glass and milk is poured over, these little gimmicks, we love ’em! The Hot Chocolate was not very dense and a good portion for one! We also tried the Nutella Layered Cheesecake and it was no surprise that we love it!

The interested part was that they give you the bill inside a book, a poetry book! How thoughtful! This one we’re sure is here to stay and is an absolute delight to visit.

Ice Cream Mixing Workshop at Hokey Pokey

Hokey Pokey Ice Creams BandraThe only thing that can beat this torturous Mumbai heat is ice cream! And imagine a place that let’s you mix and match your favorite flavors and top them up with some delicious toppings. Hokey Pokey, that’s been around for a while now, is definitely on the list of our favorite ice cream parlours.

On our recent visit, they hosted a fun competition where you get to make a blend of your choice and the best one gets added to their menu. Cool, right? We got a brief tutorial on how they blend their ice creams as well. Here’s how:

Review: Fro Yo

With Frozen Yogurts gaining popularity in the suburbs, there’s one more on the block. Fro Yo opened its first outlet in Bandra and is soon opening another one in Oshiwara, opposite Sammy Sosa. This outlet is Fro Yo is ideal for takeaways as it is relatively small and has limited seating available.

You can choose from flavours such as Blueberry, Strawberry and Plain Fro Yo alongwith a wide range of toppings like Chocolate Chips, Lychee, Strawberry, Cashews, Almonds, Oreo Cookies, Kiwi, Mango, Coconut Flakes, Hazelnut Crunch and lots more. We tried the Blueberry Yogurt with Chocolate Chips, Oreo Cookies and Kiwi toppings.  The toppings made the dessert a little crunchy and the yogurt was perfectly sour and yummy!

What we enjoyed the most was the smoothie at Fro Yo. We tried the Frojito, a unique blend of mint, lime and sprite topped with Strawberry yogurt, absolutely delightful! We loved Fro Yo and would recommend it to everyone who would rather choose a healthy alternative to indulge in after their meal!

Review: Yogurtbay

After Cocoberry and Fro Yo, Bandra gets a brand new Frozen Yogurt Place called Yogurtbay. Located in the Khau Galli of Carter Road, the new kid on the block, promoted its launch by giving out free cups of yogurt with lots of toppings on the first day. Impressive, huh?

We reached Yogurt Bay after the much created hype and tried the Blueberry Cheesecake Yogurt, the Strawberry Yogurt and the Chocolate Yogurt. The Blueberry Yogurt was sinful, Strawberry was not bad either, but the Chocolate Yogurt tasted like a sorbet (we wouldn‚Äôt recommend it). For the toppings, you can choose from the Oreo cookies, Brownies, Marshmallows, Strawberries, Choco chips and lots more. What you must try are the ‚ÄėPoppers‚Äô, they are small jelly pieces that burst in your mouth, distinctive and exciting!

They have played smart when it comes to the seating. Cushions are placed on the platform outside the parlour giving it a young and refreshing look. Great effort we must say, Yogurtbay is definitely here to stay!

Review: San Churro

“In 1528 Hernan Cortes brought the decadent Aztec tradition of chocolate to Spain. So precious was this gift that only the monks were allowed to manufacture chocolate strictly for the Spanish aristocracy. The head monk, San Churro, witnessed many miracles of chocolate including the healing of the Queen of Spain and made it his life’s work to spread the ‘secret’ of chocolate across Europe.

And so began the legend of San Churro…” This is where San Churro, the international dessert chain, originated from. And now, it is in Aamchi Mumbai, after the popular chocolaterie A Chocolate Affair. After hearing so many people talk about it, my sweet tooth was whining till I finally visited it. One advice to everyone looking forward to this place is that, walk in without too many expectations.

The place is divided into two levels, ground and first. The ground level flaunts a big counter with a display of chocolates, desserts, limited snacks and more. The extensive menu has everything chocolate starting from Churros, Hot Chocolate, Shakes, Cakes, Desserts, Sundaes, etc. There is a small seating are on the ground level with about four to five tables and a couple of high stools.

The stairs lead you to the first level which is relatively spacious, brightly lit with huge french windows, comfortable couches and chairs. The decor is pretty impressive, not too loud, subtle and classy. The service could have been better, considering the fact that there were very few people behind the counter and they took close to ten minutes to take down our order. However, they were extremely helpful and well informed about each and every item on the menu; we appreciate!

Coming to our order, the good part is that with every dessert you choose, an option of Dark, Milk or White Chocolate is given to you. Since, Churros was their specialty, I took it for granted that it would be perfectly prepared and decided to skip it for the Double Chocolate Sundae and the Hot Chocolate both with dark chocolate!

The contents of the Sundae were, Brownie, Chocolate Sauce, Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Ice-cream and Rich Cream. A poor imitation of the Chocolate Avalanche served at Mocha’s, this one was a complete let down. The Classic Spanish Hot Chocolate, however, was absolutely sinful. With every sip that I gulped, I made a trip to heaven and back! Super amazing, pure chocolate melted into a beverage, this was the best I have had so far!
Children would love this place and adults who have a soft corner for chocolates are gonna drool as well! If you are planning to have some inexpensive desserts after a budget lunch, skip this place at it’s priced on the higher end!
