Parsi Treat at BawiBride’s #PatetiPopUp

The festivities have begun. August is here. We have all the reasons to celebrate. From Janmashtmi and Parsi New Year to Ganesh Chaturthi, every festival calls for some distinct food and sweets!

On the occasion of Parsi New Year, Perzen, popularly known as BawiBride (Twitter), invited a bunch of us over, to her crib for a traditional Parsi meal. Pateti, the last day on the Parsi Calender, is celebrated as wonderfully as Navroze (First Day/ New Year Day). And there we were, celebrating Pateti over an elaborate meal and long conversations!

The menu was set, a tempting three course meal. Parsi nosh – Cheese Eeda Cutlets, Saas ni Prawns, Shehenshahi Pulao and dense Chocolate Mousse.

Cheese Eeda Cutlets
Cheese Eeda Cutlets

We started with the Cheese Eeda Cutlets, sinful, stuffed with Cheese, Egg and more Cheese, we couldn’t get enough of these. We had to stop ourselves from eating too much of the Cutlets so that we saved some space for the rest of the meal.

Saas Ni Prawns
Saas Ni Prawns

This was followed by the Saas ni Prawns, a Parsi version of the Prawn Curry which we enjoyed with Rotis. We also got to know a lot about Parsi food, the preparation style and how this dish was one of the easiest to prepare but yet so delicious!

Shahenshahi Kheema Pulao

Then came the Shehenshahi Kheema Pulao. Layered with Kheema, Rice, Eggs and Dry Fruits, this one was a star. Every layer was perfectly cooked and blended extremely well. The raisins and fried onions added that extra oomph to the dish.

Chocolate Mousse

Then came the dessert. BawiBride’s most famous Chocolate Mousse. Even though we were stuffed and had absolutely no room left, we couldn’t just stop eating this. Eggless Chocolate Mousse topped with chocolate Chips, yum!

If you want to learn how to make these dishes, simply get on to Perzen’s blog where she has most of the recipes up! Or if you’re to lazy to do that, give her a call and place an order. Yes, she takes orders!

Review: Hakkasan’s Anniversary Set Menu

1402412360581

Hakkasan has been on our list of favourites since its launch for its delicious food and the quality of ingredients. But the hole-in-pocket pricing was always a big drawback. Hakkasan, on the occassion of its third anniversary, has tried to change the brand’s perception by launching a 4 course set lunch menu priced at just Rs.1200+tax, yes, that’s a steal!

When we dropped by to try it out, we were delighted with the options. You can pick 3 things from their small eats section, 2 from the mains, 2 from the rice/noodles and 1 from the desserts option.

We started off with the dumplings, the Chicken & Prawn Shumai,  the Hargau and the Pakchoi Dumpling were our favourites. Juicy, melt in the mouth dumplings, we couldn’t have just one.  Additionally, we ordered for our favourite Duck Fried Rolls from the à la carte menu, they can never go wrong with these.

From the mains, the Steamed Indian Salmon in Black Bean Sauce was tender and perfectly cooked and the Chicken Ho fun Noodles were well prepared, flat noodles with a generous quantity of chicken pieces and sprouts. Although we would’ve loved to try the beef version of it as traditionally ho fun noodles are supposed to be cooked with beef.

For desserts, we tried the Three Chocolate Bavarois with Coconut & Lemon Sorbet – the texture of the bavarois was fabulous and the Coconut and Lemon Sorbet perfectly complimented. The Blueberry and White Chocolate Parfait with a Blueberry Sorbet was a great dessert too. We really have to say, the Sorbets at Hakkasan completely overpower the rest of the dessert, but we’re not complaining.

Overall, at Rs.1200, the set menu is a steal. Go try it out before June 30th and we assure you, you’ll have a great time.

Review: Summer Menu at 5, The Restaurant

5 - The Restaurant
5 – The Restaurant

Just when the summer is here restaurants have started introducing their summer special menus and dishes. One such restaurant is 5, at Santacruz West.

Watermelon, Cucumber and Feta Salad
Watermelon, Cucumber and Feta Salad

5 is known for its continental cuisine and has been around for a couple of years. We were invited over to try their special summer menu which included dishes like Squash and Lemongrass soup, Warermelon,Cucumber and Feta Salad, Black Pepper Crusted Chicken and more.

We started our meal with the soup which was warm and comforting. The Watermelon, Cucumber and Feta Salad with mint and balsamic vinegar dressing was refreshing and delicious, perfect for a summer afternoon. The Harissa Pomfret made it to our list of favourites as it was tender and the beetroot mash served with it complimented the dish well. Although the Black Pepper Crusted Chicken was not the best we’ve had, the raw mango salad served along with it left us craving for more.

Banana Torte

For desserts, we skipped the Mango Cheesecake from their summer menu and opted for their signature Banana Torte from their regular menu. A choice we don’t regret.

We were pleasantly surprised with the menu at 5 and we suggest you go try it before the end of the season.

California Pizza Kitchen Gets a New Menu

We were recently invited to try the new menu at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK). Here’s a sneak peak into the recent additions.

Our favourites were the Black Bean Quesadillas and the Chicken Caesar Sandwich in Cheese bread. The Waldorf Salad, although colourful, missed the crunch! The Lettuce Wrap was tangy and delicious and would’ve tasted better if it was slightly warmer. Surprisingly, we were disappointed with the pizzas and would suggest our readers to stick to the classics and not experiment with the new additions.

We loved the fact that all the dishes were served with sides, either salad, fries or dips. Overall, we appreciate CPK’s attempt to try out something new, we love their inhouse baked breads (that are also for sale) and the fresh ingredients used in all the dishes!
