Review: Coffee Culture

In a place like Bandra, we can never have ‘just enough’ coffee shops. The more, the merrier, is what we believe.

Replacing Basilico, this newbie is not so new afterall. They have outlets in Surat, Lucknow, Jabalpur, Vapi, Kadodara, Bardoli and now Mumbai. It’s amazing to see how cafes are taking an effort to do up their interiors and gone are the days where all you got in a coffee shop was a display of cold food and a table to keep it on.

Coffee Culture, located on Hill Road, is chirpy and colourful. When we entered, on a weekday evening, we were quite surprised to see that there was no place to sit, inside or outside. After a wait of ten minutes, we were given a table. Since it was too loud inside (constant chattering and no music), we asked to be shifted outside, which definitely had a better vibe.

We ordered for the Chicken Pizza Wich and Culture Addiction Cold Coffee. The Pizza Wich – a grilled sandwich with cheese and chicken as the filling, was average. The filling could have been better and definitely more cheese! The Culture Addiction was listed under the Dessert Cold Coffee section and was rich, creamy with a hint of hazelnut and was topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. It was great, definitely coming back for this one. The menu is so vast that it’s going to take us many visits to try out more stuff on it and we are looking forward to it. The service lacked promptness, hopefully only a teething issue and since it was packed to the t, we can excuse them.

Overall, Coffee Culture is a wonderful addition to the coffee scene and it makes us happy that they have a range of food options. Going back there soon!

Review: Entisi Chocolatier

Entisi the newest Chocolate Store in Santacruz West, claims to infuse their passion and expertise in crafting the finest chocolates with rich, creamy textures and a divine feeling. They have a range of Chocolates from Bon Bons, Bars, Dragees, Single Origins and Cubes. Priced on the higher end, these chocolates are apt for gifting purposes or for a pampering treat for yourself.

We loved a couple of flavours that we tried which included the centre filled Raspberry – Chocolate and raspberry ganache encased in dark chocolate, Kesar Pista which was a perfect replacement for your Indian Mithai – saffron, cardamom and homemade authentic pistachio paste in creamy white chocolate shell and the Coffee which was made with real coffee beans infused overnight to get a powerful coffee flavoured ganache in dark chocolate.

The Dragees were quite delicious too but addictive as well, we couldn’t stop at one and had a few too many.

The founder Nikki Thakker was kind enough to share her story behind the brand and her passion for Chocolate making. It’s great to know that the market for fine chocolates is growing by the day in Mumbai.

Review: New Menu at Quattro

Quattro is best known as a vegetarian foodie’s heaven! And when we learnt that they have launched a new menu, we couldn’t wait to dig our forks into it!

So we dropped by at Quattro, Lower Parel on a Wednesday evening and to our surprise, most of the tables were reserved.

The new menu consisted of a limited number of Italian and Mexican delicacies alongwith the classics that were their in their previous menu. We started our meal with the salads, the Insalate Castano which comprised of water chestnuts, beans, cherry tomatoes and shallots tossed in a Mexican sauce and served warm, unique and delicious! We also tried the Liquid Salad which was nothing but a juice of greens like kale, topped with Parmesan cheese.

In the appetizers, we tried the Olive and Mushroom Crostini, Taquitos and the Jalapeno Queso. Our favourite was the Taquitos – Fried gluten-free tortilla cones filled with beans, jalapeno, salsa and topped with avocado ice-cream! Yes, avocado ice-cream!

Oliviera Pizza at Quattro

In the mains, we called for the Oliviera Pizza, which was nothing but a Margherita pizza topped with molecular olives. Quattro is known for their delicious thin-crush wood fired pizzas and this one didn’t let us down!

Spicy Watermelon

In the drinks, we tried the Spicy Watermelon mocktail and the Michelada – a Mexican beer cocktail. While the Watermelon mocktail was worth a try, the Michelada was too strong for our taste buds.

Coming to our favourite part, the desserts! When they say, don’t forget to save space for desserts, they really mean it for Quattro! Try the Chocolate Saturn and the Tiramisu and just see the pictures to tempt you! A treat for the eyes and the soul. Also, if you are here to celebrate some happy occasion, try the Chocolate Candle, you blow it, you cut it and you eat it!

Review: Poetry by Love & Cheesecake

Everytime there’s a new cafe in the city, we are the first ones to drop by and try it. It was no different with Poetry, a newly opened cafe by the guys behind dessert chain, Love & Cheesecake.

IMG_5308

We went there on a rainy weekday evening and we were delighted with the cute little space with an abstract feel to it, justifies the name, Poetry. One side of the cafe had an enticing line up of desserts while the other side had a few tables to accomodate the customers.

Nutellla Layered Cheesecake

We started with trying the Hot Chocolate. Extremely fascinating, the Nutella Hot Chocolate was. A chocolate ball in an empty glass and milk is poured over, these little gimmicks, we love ’em! The Hot Chocolate was not very dense and a good portion for one! We also tried the Nutella Layered Cheesecake and it was no surprise that we love it!

The interested part was that they give you the bill inside a book, a poetry book! How thoughtful! This one we’re sure is here to stay and is an absolute delight to visit.

Holi Special: Haagen Dazs introduces Falooda Sorbets

Falooda with sorbets, what do you think? Hard to imagine?

Falooda Sorbets

Haagen Dazs has introduced Falooda Sorbets for the Holi week.

The international chain has tried to offer the Indian taste buds, a local flavour, but they have replaced the traditional kulfis with sorbet and rabdi with milkmaid.

We tried a couple of options but our favourite was the tangy Orange Falooda Sorbet topped with dried nuts. The appearance, just like the setting sun, this one was an absolutely delight and extremely flavourful!

IMG_1501At Haagen Dazs, you can choose your sorbet from their range and the chef will make it for you with their inhouse prepared flavoured falooda.

PS: We did miss our traditional kulfi though! 🙂

Review: The Nutcracker

Some places just give you a good vibe even before you step in. This was a feeling we got while we waited for a table on a Wednesday evening outside The Nutcracker.

CSC_0017A hole in the wall eatery, this one is a hidden gem. Thoughtfully done up interiors and a romeo-juliet like mini faux balcony next to the brightly lit signboard, made us feel extremely happy to be here.

Without much ado, we placed our order. One Three Cheese Omelette, One Asian Salad, Two Burgers – BlackBean and Soya Spinach Jalapeno, Buttermilk Pancakes and the Seven Layer Cookie. Within minutes our table was filled with exciting looking dishes. The Three Cheese Omelette, which you could choose rolled or fluffy, was quite good but not the best we’ve had. We’d like some more cheese please! The Asian Salad was mind blowing, tasty, tangy, fresh with crunchy veggies tossed in a spicy Asian dressing! The burgers, although a little under seasoned, had a big patty and were not too bready.

The Pancakes were served with Blueberry Compote, butter and Maple Syrup. A little eggy which we could totally overlook as they still tasted yummy. The star of our meal was the Seven Layer Cookie, layered with biscuit crumble, gooey chocolate, butterscotch, almonds and served with a scoop of Ice Cream.

Overall, kudos to the service at The Nutcracker. If they work a little more on their flavours, we are sure this one is going to be crackling!

Hokey Pokey Ice Creams BandraThe only thing that can beat this torturous Mumbai heat is ice cream! And imagine a place that let’s you mix and match your favorite flavors and top them up with some delicious toppings. Hokey Pokey, that’s been around for a while now, is definitely on the list of our favorite ice cream parlours.
